Delivery review: l’Entrecôte et les Dames’ delivery meal
During this crazy coronavirus period, restaurants are closed, so we’re happily dining out at home. Fortunately, many new and special delivery and takeaway restaurants are joining the scene. And we’re going to test them for you. That way, we can keep eating well while supporting the hospitality industry. Today: l’Entrecôte et les Dames in Amsterdam.
One to remember forever
I will never forget my very first experience at this cheerful red restaurant in the chic Van Baerlestraat. Those pieces of entrecôte in that magical herb sauce tasted wonderful, as did the French fries. But the highlight was when a friendly lady came by with a platter full of freshly cooked entrecôte. ‘Another tasty piece? Some more fries as well?’ Utter bliss! Suddenly I knew what hospitality meant: turning a dream wish into reality before the guest even knows they have that dream wish.
The ladies had delivered before, but only a sandwich topped with entrecôte, and that was missing the experience. It even slightly ruined the dream image I had, because the somewhat too-hard bread became soggy inside from the sauce. But fortunately, they now also offer the entire ‘tried-and-tested formula’ for home, so it’s time for a second chance.
Super simple, super delicious!
The starter tastes exactly like it does in the restaurant: crisp butterhead lettuce with a mustard vinaigrette and walnuts. Super simple, but so delicious! After all my experiences at this restaurant, I know for sure. It’s the walnuts. Or is it the dressing? Or is it the combination?!
Rosy inside and crispy outside
But it’s all about the main course. Fortunately, the entrecôte is saignant: rosy inside, with a slightly crispy crust. Despite the journey, the temperature is still fairly good. The green butter sauce is provided separately. The fries are deliciously crisp too, and taste wonderful with the mayonnaise.
Unfortunately, the plate is empty far too quickly, but just as I’ve forgotten that I had only put half of the meat and fries on the plate, that first-time moment of happiness suddenly returns. ‘Another tasty piece? Some more fries as well?’ I politely ask myself, but before I let myself finish speaking, I wolf it down like an underfed tiger devouring its prey.
Can l‘Entrecôte et les Dames join us at the table more often?
Yes, s’il vous plait! As someone prone to addiction, I have to restrain myself from ordering this every day; it was that delicious! For this delightful fix, the whole ‘formula’, you pay 20 euros. And for that price, you get a generous portion. If you’re not a meat person, you can also choose sole with ravigote sauce, but it will always remain in the shadow.
