Delivery review: Sea Palace’s takeaway meal
During these crazy corona times, restaurants are closed, so we’re enjoying eating out at home. Luckily, lots of new and unique takeaway and delivery restaurants are joining the scene. And we’re going to test them for you. That way, we can keep eating well and support the hospitality industry. Today: Sea Palace.

The delivery
The cheerful delivery bag is filled with the little dim sum bites, neatly packaged in pairs, as if they’ve just come from Noah’s Ark. Eating out at home should be a celebration too, just like eating out for real, so I take everything out of the packaging and get my grandmother’s Chinese tea set out of the cupboard. As a self-proclaimed food stylist, I divide the bites among the precious porcelain and make tea. The people at Sea Palace will be proud of me; tea goes with dim sum like staying home goes with corona.
The menu
The Dim Sum Box contains Ngau Yuk Kuun (spring rolls with beef in black pepper sauce), Hau Kau (shrimp dumplings), Sui Mai (dumplings with pork, shrimp and shiitake), Kai Kau (deep-fried pastries with shiitake) and Lo Mai Chi (coconut dumplings with lotus paste). It comes with a small container of sweet-and-sour sauce.
The steamed dumplings have good flavor and a pleasant texture, and the crispy fried pastries and spring rolls taste very good too. The main course, Kung Pao Chicken (diced chicken thigh with peanuts in sweet-and-sour kung pao sauce), is somewhat one-dimensional. The few pieces of ginger are the highlight, but because of the overly flat sauce, bland chicken and peanut overload, the Kung Pao Chicken is unfortunately not as refined as the first dishes. More than half of the chicken remains untouched.
Can Sea Palace join us at the table more often?
Yes, but mainly for a more extensive selection of dim sum!
How much does it cost?
The standard box costs 18 euros and is great to share between two people. You can also order individual dim sum dishes; the list is extensive and available to order via Uber Eats.
