Whether you buy your fruit at the supermarket or the farmers’ market, it’s ready to eat. But what do all those fruits look like before they end up on the shelves? Well, like this.

Pineapple

With the (tropical) plant craze in the world of interior design, some people may already have noticed: these days, even a modest florist has pineapple plants for sale. But this is what it looks like when you have an entire plantation full of them.

Dates

Dates grow in large, hanging clusters on date palm trees.

Kiwi

Kiwis grow on a winding climbing vine. They are planted more than six metres apart, but grow so quickly that you soon get scenes that look almost like vineyards.

Papaya

Papayas grow in clusters on a tree. You might think: just like bananas, but bananas grow on a plant, not a tree.

Pomegranates

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Neither does the pomegranate.

Persimmon

Persimmons—also called sharon fruit—grow on a tree and simply remain hanging there throughout the winter.
