Dining out on the train: 3 experiences

uit eten in de trein

We all occasionally grab a quick portion of fries or eat a wrap on the train, but an elaborate dinner? That’s perfectly possible too. On these trains and trams, you can enjoy a ride while working your way through an entire dinner.

The Dinner Train

This train restaurant travels through 37 stations across the Netherlands. From Enschede to Groningen, everyone has the chance to enjoy a bite to eat on this train. During the two-hour train journey, you’ll enjoy a four-course menu on board, with a choice of fish or vegetarian. Check the website to see when the train will be in your area.

De Hoftrammm

A few years ago, this moving tram restaurant was still an ‘ordinary’ tram in The Hague. It has now been transformed into the first moving tram restaurant in the Netherlands. On this tram, you’ll take a tour through the city centre of Voorburg, central The Hague and Scheveningen. While you take in the city centre, a full five-course dinner is served. During the day, it’s also possible to ‘dunch’ (dinner/lunch). This way, you can see the city in more daylight while still enjoying the same menu as in the evening.

Panoramarail

Not in the mood for a busy city? Then take the Panoramarail Express for the finest views of Rotterdam’s port during the World Port Days. Or book the train as transport to the annual staff party. The train’s menu was created by Julius Jaspers, so you can be sure you’ll enjoy a truly culinary meal. The train can travel along all the stations in the country and can also reach places ordinary trains cannot, such as the Maasvlakte.
