Disgusting: you can now eat this dish with a giant woodlouse in Taipei
Let me start by saying that I’m really not an adventurous eater — although I would like to be. So no fried insects for me, but I’m not yet brave enough to try frog legs either. There’s not a hair on my head that would consider this, but anyway: this one’s for the enthusiasts. In Taipei, you can now order a ramen dish at The Ramen Boy with a giant woodlouse on top. The photo alone gives me shivers.
So consider yourself warned: this could well ruin your appetite. It certainly did mine.
Surprisingly enough, the dish is insanely popular
At the moment, more than 100 people are on the waiting list to eat at the restaurant; reservations exploded after the launch of this dish on May 22. These ramen noodles cost around 48 dollars, and you get a ramen soup made with chicken and fish stock, topped with a steamed woodlouse — steaming it takes about ten minutes.
According to the lucky few who have already been allowed to taste it, the insect tastes a little like a mix between crab and lobster, including in terms of texture. Well, who dares?
