Do it now: clean the ventilation grilles in your kitchen (and this is the best way to do it)
I don’t know what things are like in newly built homes, but in our house there’s something in the kitchen that apparently should be cleaned much more often than we do. It can collect a lot of dust, and you really don’t want that being blown around near your food…
Be honest, how often do you clean the ventilation grilles in your home (if you have them, of course)? I think I usually just hope that someone else will remember to do it during the big clean. And when I saw the grime in the TikTok video below, I could confidently say that ours has never been that filthy, but it did get me thinking.
Get the vacuum cleaner on it
Because, of course, it’s not exactly hygienic to let all kinds of accumulated dust in the kitchen (where we have a ventilation strip in the kitchen window) find its way unnoticed into all kinds of dishes. That’s why, when you’re vacuuming anyway, it’s a good idea not to focus only on the floor but to look up once in a while too!
Protect your goodies
Include the ventilation grilles, preferably using the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner wand. If things are really bad, also wipe the filters with a dry microfiber cloth. That way, you’ll avoid serving a roasted chicken from the oven with an extra portion of dust mites, or a cake with an extra sprinkling of dust. By the way, don’t forget to clean the filters in your extractor hood regularly either, and feel free to reward yourself afterward with something or other – a big, indulgent Ben & Jerry’s/Tony’s bar, for example!
