Eat That NYC #5

Food is everywhere in New York. On the street, atop the highest towers and underground. And you can’t consult a single publication without being overwhelmed by food tips. Yet you’re always looking for that one place with just a little something extra. Stop searching, and take the train to Grand Central Station.

Noma pioneer

The Grand Central in Manhattan already had plenty of good food to offer anyway. From The Grand Central Oyster Bar and Shake Shack to the Italian classic Cipriani.

You could, so to speak, arrive in NYC by Amtrack and never have to leave the station to eat something different every day of the week.

Above all, eat smörgåsbord here – heavily topped Danish rye bread.

But of course, that’s not what you do. What you do is go to The Great Northern Food Hall from former Noma pioneer, Dane Claus Meyer. For Nordic craft beer, bread in the finest Nordic traditions at Meyers Bageri, savory porridges at the Grain Bar, Danish dogs, coffee and sweets.

Mother’s Milk

But what you should especially go and taste is something we encounter far too rarely in our own country for very unclear reasons – because really, how far is Denmark to drive from here? Namely the famous Danish open rye sandwiches, or smörgåsbord – heavily topped rye bread. Add a Mother’s Milk craft beer and no train will be able to get you away from there.
