El Bulli to reopen

el bulli

World-famous restaurant El Bulli closed its doors for good in 2011, but after some time the building will be reopened. With a completely different culinary purpose, though.

Chef Ferran Adrià worked in the kitchen at the Spanish restaurant and was a pioneer in modern and molecular cooking. The restaurant was named the world’s best restaurant by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants no fewer than five times.

Exhibition

Where the restaurant once stood, a research lab and exhibition space are now being built. It will be a kind of museum dedicated to the history and theory of cooking. The entire complex, called El Bulli 1864, is no less than 7,000 square metres.

Confusing

The description on the El Bulli Foundation website is still somewhat abstract and confusing, entirely in the style of chef Adrià. It has been announced that activities will begin in January 2018. Whether this means that the building will be open to the public or that construction will begin then is still unclear.
