Exceptional hospitality concept: Orangerie De Pol in Doetinchem

I’m often asked: “What are some truly cool hospitality concepts?” Here’s my answer! Every week, I take you to the most extraordinary restaurants, bars and hotels at home and abroad. Have you always wanted to dine in a design greenhouse? Then head to restaurant Orangerie De Pol in Doetinchem!

A breathtaking design greenhouse. That’s exactly how you can describe restaurant Orangerie De Pol, which opened a year and a half ago. Four young entrepreneurs (Rick and Kim van den Broek, Mark Captein and Marjolein van der Ham) transformed an old greenhouse in the heart of the Achterhoek into a special, fresh and brand-new restaurant in just four months. The renovated, spacious glass greenhouse features round tables, and you can see exactly what the chefs are doing in the open kitchen. A joy to sit here, both in summer and winter!

Regional cuisine
But it’s not just the beautiful design that makes dinner here such a special experience. The culinary level is also high. It’s no coincidence that the restaurant is featured in the new Gault&Millau and Lekker 2020 culinary guides, and that it was nominated for an Entree Award in 2018. Guests can choose from a four-, five- or six-course menu. The menu is set and changes every season. Nice and easy, because you don’t have to choose from an endless menu. The focus is on regional cuisine featuring Achterhoek products made on a small scale. The menu even includes a wine produced in-house. There is room for twenty to thirty guests in total.

Honourable mentions
Fun fact: Marjolein van der Ham was recently named Hostess of the Year by restaurant association JRE. Great service is therefore guaranteed!
Staying ‘at De Pol’
Most people will have to drive a fair distance to the Achterhoek. No problem! Next to the restaurant stands a beautiful former servants’ house, which has been renovated and transformed into an atmospheric ‘tiny house’ with a private terrace. And another nice thing to know: the old drive-through barn from 1846 can be rented for parties! In short, De Pol is a unique location well worth making a detour for.
