Brewing beer is becoming more expensive

Brewers should prepare themselves for the fact that brewing beers is going to become considerably more expensive, according to a report by Rabobank. This is because the global hop harvest fell by forty percent in 2015, causing prices to rise. As a result, it is becoming even more difficult for brewers to obtain hops.

The growing popularity of specialty beers (these require an average of six times as much hops as a regular beer) has only made this problem worse. An additional problem is that brewing barley will also become scarce in the long term. According to the Dutch bank, investments will have to be made worldwide to meet the growing demand for beer in emerging countries and the trend toward specialty beers in the West.
