Fast-food employees share their favorite hacks

foodhacks

My very first job was immediately one close to my heart: making pizzas at New York Pizza. Well, okay, to be completely honest: I started out as a telephone operator there. But my passion and love for pizza was quickly noticed: I was promoted to pizza maker. I worked there two or three days a week for the brilliant hourly wage of €2.50. No joke. I was 14 and could still eat whatever I wanted without bursting out of my favorite pair of trousers. Ah, better times.

And, of course, an added benefit of working at New York Pizza was: THE PIZZAS. As an employee, you got 50 percent off if you wanted to eat a pizza yourself, but with my hourly wage, that wasn’t exactly affordable. So I got them for free. And let me tell you: I tried A LOT of combinations. My ultimate hack is therefore: herb butter on all the crusts. So delicious.

Fast-food employees have the very best hacks

Another favorite of mine was—and I don’t think it’s very unknown—a four-cheese pizza with pepperoni on top (preferably ‘nduja, but we didn’t have that back then). A golden combination. So much for the New York Pizza tips, but there’s more. Fast-food employees told Buzzfeed about their golden tips, and let me tell you: some of them are really delicious. And I can also warn you in advance: reading this = getting hungry, beware!

Pizza Hut

“Former Pizza Hut employee here. Take pizza dough that you can’t use, tear it into pieces, deep-fry it for a few minutes and sprinkle cinnamon over it. BAM, and you’ve got donut snacks.”

Kentucky Fried Chicken

“The biscuit buns arrive frozen. Instead of putting them in the oven, we deep-fried them, and they came out as the most delicious, juicy buttermilk donuts. Drizzle some honey over them and they’re absolutely amazing!”

McDonald’s

“When I worked at McDonald’s, we sometimes made a grilled cheese sandwich. In other words, a slice of cheese between two upside-down hamburger buns, then grilled briefly.”

“Ex-McDonald’s employee here: vanilla ice cream in hot chocolate is absolutely delicious.”

“Half orange juice, half vanilla milkshake: a-ma-zing.”

Domino’s Pizza

“I take a small piece of pizza dough, some Alfredo sauce, lots of cheddar cheese and some bacon. Mix it all together and put it on the piece of dough. Then raise the edges a little, as if you’re making a bowl, and put it in the pizza oven. When it’s ready, drizzle some garlic oil and a little mango habanero sauce over it, and you’ve got one of the best Mac ‘n Cheese bowls you’ve ever eaten.”

Burger King

“At Burger King, the Double Cheese Whopper with bacon and sweet chili sauce was a happy accident —sweet chili sauce and ketchup together is amazing.”
