FG Okonomiyaki Bar

Star chef François Geurds will open FG Okonomiyaki Bar near the Hofbogen in Rotterdam at the beginning of November. The Japanese love okonomiyaki, a richly filled savory pancake, and soon the people of Rotterdam will also be able to enjoy this popular snack. The bar is opening in the clothing store Denoism, where everything—absolutely everything—exudes Japan.

Savory and heavenly
Okinomiyaki literally translates as ‘what you like, grilled’. The starting point is always a pancake made with a seaweed broth base. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. You can vary the filling and toppings according to your taste. At FG Okonomiyaki Bar, for example, you can choose from cod, pork belly, tuna and bonito flakes (dried and shaved tuna flakes that give the dish its characteristic Japanese flavor).

Sweet treats and sparkling sake
For those with a sweet tooth, the bar serves a selection of freshly made cakes that changes daily. You can also enjoy Japanese tea, various types of sake (Japanese rice wine), including a sparkling variety, as well as different mocktails or simply a good glass of wine.

Glamorous yet accessible
François Geurds is a big name in Rotterdam and beyond. Among other things, he owns and is the creative force behind the two-Michelin-starred restaurants FG Restaurant and FG Bistro, both of which are within walking distance of the Okonomiyaki Bar that is soon to open. Don’t be put off by all the glamour, because the bar’s offerings are very reasonably priced. For €5 each, you will soon also be able to take away mini okonomiyaki.
