Fishing is mainly known as a hobby for somewhat portly old men in ill-fitting clothes, but not for much longer. In ever-hip New York, Zauo is opening its doors—a Japanese restaurant chain where you fish for your own dinner.

On Monday, October 15, the doors will open to a restaurant featuring not only tables, but also three large fish tanks filled with salmon, sea bass, flounder, trout and more, where you can unleash your inner caveman (or Robinson Crusoe). Well, caveman? Once you’ve caught your fish, you simply hand it over to the kitchen, which will then grill it, deep-fry it, simmer it in soy sauce, or turn it into sushi or sashimi for you.

Fuel for an angry animal-protection squad? Not according to owners Noriki Takahasi and his sons Kazuhisa and Takuya. They have a no-catch-and-release policy—in other words: once you’ve caught a fish, you have to eat it too. According to Takahasi, the restaurant is actually a school for learning about the food chain.
