For all wine lovers: you can now spend the night in a real wine barrel
You know the box spring at home by now, so it’s time to go on vacation. And as a true wine lover, you don’t want to sleep on a waterbed, but in a wine barrel. Right?
In Sasbachwalden, Germany, in the Black Forest, you’ll find Ilona Wild’s funny little houses. Completely round, with red-and-white checked curtains in front of the windows. Are you in a hobbit village? No, Ilona came up with Schlafen im Weinfass; the bedrooms are made inside enormous wine barrels. Among flowers and vineyards, she has converted the wine barrels—lying on their sides—into places to stay. Each guest gets their own sleeping barrel and a barrel with a living room and bathroom facilities. The barrels are so well insulated and heated that you can enjoy a wonderfully cozy stay even when the weather is less than perfect.
Rolling
In the Black Forest, you can hike, birdwatch, cycle, eat delicious food and… taste wine, because there are vineyards nearby, so you can sample surprising local wines. Bring along a bottle (or two), and you can roll straight into your wine barrel.
