Yes, people, the coronavirus has had a peculiar effect on our normally level-headed nation. Hoarding toilet paper—what is that all about?! No one quite understands why. As a result, supermarket shelves with toilet paper are emptier than empty. You can anticipate that, but I was still in denial (and busy with completely different things, such as trying to homeschool the child (fail) and not murdering my spouse (almost fail).

Anyway: I had no rolls left at home. Of course, I had seen all the absurd photos go by, from people who could no longer close their trunks because of 600 rolls of toilet paper to people who proudly (!) posed in their bathrooms, surrounded by snow-white towers. Still, I thought, it probably wouldn’t get that bad. But it did, even at my supermarket. Panic!

All you have to do is send them a message explaining why you should receive a box of toilet rolls. “Last week, we helped a group of nurses and a home with young disabled children who are considered a high-risk group and therefore aren’t allowed to leave their home. Many elderly people also received a box,” says Melle.
