Get rid of those ingredient lists, this app has the answer

allergie

Whether you have a serious peanut allergy or simply want to eat a little less sugar: with the ‘Kies-Ik-Gezond?’ app, you no longer have to pore over all the product labels. The app checks the ingredients for you. Easy does it.

The ‘Kies-Ik-Gezond?’ app, created by the Voedingscentrum, already featured an Eetmeter and a Schijf van Vijf planner, and has now been expanded with an ingredient checker.

*Beep*

In the app, you can easily indicate that you want to keep an eye on sugar, gluten, peanuts or other allergens. You scan a product’s barcode with the app and your answer is just a scan away. It’s a little reminiscent of the unsuitable/suitable commercial from the Royal Netherlands Army.

If you’re allergic to peanuts, you’ll receive a notification saying ‘ingredient present’ instead of a complicated ingredient list. This way, you’ll quickly find out whether you should leave that new granola on the shelf (or not, fingers crossed).

Trehalose, what now?

The app also helps you discover hidden ingredients such as sugar. In many ingredient lists, the word ‘sugar’ is hardly used anymore. It hides under names such as molasses, juice concentrate and trehalose. Fun words for Hangman perhaps, but we mainly just want to know what contains sugar and what doesn’t. The app saves you the puzzle and gives you the answer within a few seconds.

You can download the app for free from the App Store or Google Play
