Good news for beer lovers: Utrecht TAPT the Biergarten Edition is coming

It’s a major disappointment for beer lovers that Oktoberfest (which has existed since 1810!) isn’t taking place this year. The world’s largest folk festival, according to the Bavarians, is also beloved by many Dutch people. There’s still good beer-festival news for them, albeit on a much smaller scale: Utrecht TAPT the Biergarten Edition is going ahead.

On September 12 and 13, 2020, Julianapark in Utrecht will be all about (specialty) beer. While countless events have been canceled or postponed, the people behind TAPT Festival found a way to make sure the popular beer festival could go ahead after all. Naturally, in an adapted and fully corona-proof format, but nevertheless packed with conviviality, quality time and – of course – beer!
The Netherlands’ largest beer terrace
The news of the coronavirus hit TAPT Festival, like the entire events industry, like a bomb. The plan to organize not five but ten editions of the beer festival went up in smoke. Still, the organizers didn’t let themselves be discouraged. As soon as it was announced that more would be possible again from September, they began searching for a way to bring Dutch beer lovers together this year after all. And they found one. On the weekend of September 12 and 13, Julianapark in Utrecht will be transformed into the Netherlands’ largest beer terrace. Long tables for two to six friends, background music and lots of delicious and surprising beers to taste.
100 different beers
At Utrecht TAPT the Biergarten Edition, no fewer than 100 beers will be served, ranging from light(er), summery beers to hoppy, heavier beers for the true die-hards. They come from several breweries, including Jopen, Weihenstephan, Brouwerij ’t IJ, Gebrouwen door Vrouwen and Utrecht beer brand Van De Streek. Make your own choice from the extensive list or opt for one of the beer routes mapped out in collaboration with Beerwulf.
Bring your own board game
Although the combination of beer and friends is often synonymous with conviviality already, everyone is encouraged to bring their own (board) games. You can also join the silent bingo, while the DJ spins the best beats to put everyone’s seated dance skills to the test.

Will you raise a glass with us?
Due to coronavirus, the event will work with time slots for 800 visitors at a time, assigned tables for each group, health checks and designated walking routes. Everything to guarantee safety, even after a few beers. It took some careful planning, but TAPT Festival and the Municipality of Utrecht are ready to show that a relatively large-scale event can be organized and that coronavirus doesn’t have to get in the way of having a good time. And the fact that we’re ready for it again is clear: tickets are flying out the door.
