Good news: M&M’s are good for your health

M&M's

Things that can make me happy: studies showing that my favorite snacks are ‘good for you’. Love it. I can’t get enough of it. So when I read that M&M’s actually have quite a few health benefits and that you’re best off eating the ones filled with peanuts — in other words, my favorite — I think that’s absolutely great news.

Of course, M&M’s contain a lot of sugar and you shouldn’t eat bags full of them (unfortunately), but a few or a handful really won’t hurt. In fact, they can actually have some benefits, especially if you’re going to exercise afterwards. The sugar does provide a significant energy boost. Peanuts are also a responsible snack, which means that M&M’s with peanuts aren’t nearly as bad for you as you might think.

So M&M’s with peanuts are the best option

Peanuts are packed with plant-based proteins, and you can certainly use those. Once again, they’re good during exercise: plant-based proteins come in handy when building muscle.

M&M’s also naturally contain chocolate, whose health benefits have been proven before. For example, chocolate contains calcium, which is good for your bones and teeth. But chocolate is also good for your mental well-being: it reduces stress and helps you produce more happy hormones. Side note: the darker the chocolate, the more this applies. But every little bit helps, right?

Okay, marking M&M’s as an ultra-healthy snack might be taking things a little too far, but having a handful before exercising every now and then really isn’t such a bad idea. I think that’s good news.
