Gross or golden: the cheeseburger scented candle
Do you get aggressive from the cloying smell of scented candles (yes, those people exist—I live with one) and are you an unapologetic snack lover? Then definitely read on. Even if you want to lose a few kilos, by the way.
This webshop sells scented candles with a very different smell. Candles that smell like, you guessed it, the greasy, delicious smell of freshly baked cheeseburgers from McDonald’s, according to some. Of chicken nuggets and crispy bacon. I already feel nauseous at the thought, but there are unexpected benefits.
Good intentions
Research has shown that you are more likely to buy healthy food products if you smell the scent of unhealthy food for at least two minutes. “We believe this happens because the scents associated with unhealthy food satisfy the reward system. This reduces the desire to actually consume unhealthy food,” says Dr. Dipayan Biswas, marketing professor at the University of South Florida and author of the study.
So it may sound a little, well… bizarre, but a cheeseburger scented candle isn’t such a bad idea after all…
