Handy hack, no more struggling: how to get baking paper into a baking tin

If there’s one thing that has stuck with me from all those irritating COVID lockdowns, it’s the banana bread recipe. I think you could wake me up at night and I’d be able to recite it from a half-asleep state. You can wake me up for banana bread itself at night, too, by the way. And do you already know this handy baking paper tip?

Because how satisfying is it when you can just quickly lift a banana bread or cake out of the tin without any pieces sticking behind? (Very satisfying.) Baking spray obviously works, but I actually find it smells unpleasantly chemical; greasing with butter is always an option, but it can leave the outside of your bread or cake greasy (tip: gin and tonic cake!), and baking paper is handy, but try taming it when you want to stuff it into the tin. Of course, you can snip it, but if you don’t have the patience for that either, you could try this:

Brilliant baking hack

TikTokker @numbersixtysix shares a handy trick for effectively pre-shaping baking paper. Start with a rectangular piece of baking paper that is more than large enough for the inside of the baking tin. Turn the tin upside down and place the paper on top. Hold the paper onto the tin with one hand and fold the corners of the paper inward over the edges with the other hand, a bit like wrapping a present. Now you’ve pre-shaped the paper; turn the tin upright and place the paper inside. Done! That way, once it’s baked, you can lift the entire loaf or cake out neatly in one go. See the video below:
