Handy: how to bring eggs to room temperature in no time

On a dreary day, the thought of that one light and airy cake, pink cakes or spekkoekjes grabs you. Suddenly, you feel like heading into the kitchen and baking. Any decent baker knows that it’s important for ingredients such as butter and eggs to always be at room temperature before you get started. But how do you do that when you have a sudden baking urge?

Cold eggs can completely ruin your bake. If you’re going to bake something—and you’ve planned it in advance—take your eggs out of the fridge a few hours beforehand so they can come to room temperature. That’s between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius. And by the way, we keep those eggs in their carton on a high shelf in the fridge, not outside it.

How to bring eggs to room temperature in no time

So, to bring the eggs to a pleasant room temperature when an acute baking urge strikes, you don’t have to do much. Simply fill a bowl with lukewarm (not hot!) water. Carefully place the eggs in the bowl for about 10 minutes. When the eggs no longer feel cold, you’re good to go and can get started.
