Haute kebab at Döner Vermeer

Star chef Chris Naylor of Restaurant Vermeer is opening pop-up restaurant Döner Vermeer for one night this coming Saturday at Barbizon Palace. You read that right: döner by a star chef, the ultimate midnight snack. The restaurant opens at midnight during Hotel Night.

Naylor drew his inspiration from the kebab capital of Western Europe: Berlin. “In Amsterdam, it’s impossible to get a really good snack after midnight, something chefs naturally love to do. In Berlin, you can choose from many high-quality kebab shops. It’s very different from the shawarma we know here, with strips of meat, a lettuce leaf, a watery slice of tomato and a blob of sauce.” So Naylor isn’t serving a simple snack. At Döner Vermeer, you get three types of meat: chicken, veal brisket and leg of lamb, with homemade bread and grilled and pickled vegetables.
Including fries and champagne
Döner alone isn’t enough. They also serve handmade fries, various sauces and champagne. That will set you back €30,- though – not cheap for a greasy bite. You’ll be one of the few people to have tasted this kebab, however, because after Hotel Night your chance will be gone. This chic kebab joint is only accessible once to visitors of Hotel Night. There is room for 65 people in the restaurant, but they also sell döner to go. We say: seize your chance; next weekend, you’ll have to settle for regular döner again.
