Do you still think Chinese food is just greasy fare? Then read this. For the first time in culinary history, there is a Michelin guide dedicated to one specific cuisine: Fine Cantonese Food by the Michelin Guide 2018-2019.

In Europe, French cuisine is often seen as the mother cuisine, but Chinese cuisine has been just as influential. So a guide of its own is entirely justified, we think. The guide lists more than 290 restaurants worldwide. Our small country is featured no fewer than eight (!) times. Our neighbours in Germany have three entries, while Norway and Switzerland have to make do with just one mention each.

The Dutch winners are:

1. Dynasty in Amsterdam
2. De Mangerie in Hilversum
3. Royal Mandarin in Hilversum
4. Alexander in Leiden
5. Wen Chow in Maastricht
6. Ni Hao in Nunspeet
7. Asian Glories in Rotterdam
8. The Oriental Swan in Soesterberg

Proud

Ewan Liu, owner of Chinese speciality restaurant De Mangerie in Hilversum, told Misset Horeca that she is proud of the honourable mention. Her restaurant is described in the guide as ‘an excellent restaurant where your taste buds travel through several Chinese regions’. In 2016, Ewan Liu won a silver medal in two categories at the World Championship Chinese Cuisine held in Rotterdam.
