Recipe: Phoebe’s chocolate chip cookies

It may have been fifteen years since the final episode aired, but Friends will forever remain in our hearts. Do you have a Friends marathon planned? Then bake these cookies based on the famous recipe from Phoebe’s grandmother.

Did you also laugh so hard at the episode in which Monica does everything she can to trace the cookie recipe of Phoebe’s late grandmother? She makes no fewer than 21 different kinds, but to no avail. “Is there no one else in your family who has the recipe?” “Oh, yes, maybe my French aunt.” It turns out to be the food magnate Nestlé Toll House, simply pronounced differently. Gotta love Phoebe.
So that recipe is actually just on the back of the package, but those cookies aren’t available anywhere in the Netherlands. Luckily, we managed to track down the recipe for you.

Method
1. Preheat the oven to 190 ºC. Mix the flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl. Beat the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract with a (stand) mixer for a few minutes until light and creamy.
2. Add the eggs one at a time. Make sure everything is well mixed before adding the second egg. Gradually mix in the flour mixture. Stir the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) into the batter.
3. Spoon dough balls about 2 tablespoons in size onto a baking sheet and bake the cookies for 9–11 minutes until golden brown. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
