Hello supermarkets, we’re not happy about this!

Is the pastry on special offer, but not the exact cake you’re craving? A checkout that’s about to close—with your groceries already on the conveyor belt? And a caterpillar in your sushi? Hello, that’s obviously not acceptable. Fortunately, there’s the complaints website, where people can even submit their most nitpicky complaints about the supermarket. ‘Why do the lemons have to be in a net?’

Impressive, indeed
Kees spotted a great deal at the Jumbo near him: two pastries for 5 euros. How could you pass that up? ‘I take two half flans, get to the checkout and the girl charges me 6 euros twice. I tell her: they were two for 5 euros, and she says: I don’t know anything about that. I tell her: go and check, but she refuses to get off her impressive backside. I wasn’t treated properly; I feel cheated.’ Kees wants his cake at the promotional price, plus a bunch of flowers as an apology.
Mouldy cheese
Mrs Gorsse spotted mould on the cheese. No, not on the gorgonzola, but on the Emmenthaler. ‘I pointed it out to an employee, and she reacted very nonchalantly: oh, but that’s only on the rind. And I could hear her thinking: what are you making such a fuss about?’ So no cheese, Mrs Gorsse thought. But after walking around the store, she saw that the cheese shelf had been restocked. And guess what? ‘The two pieces of freshly restocked Emmenthaler had mould on them. I took them from the shelf and asked whether there was a manager or store supervisor. To my surprise, it was the girl who had reacted so nonchalantly.’
So fresh, it’s still alive
G.W. bought a box of sushi to enjoy with drinks. ‘Because some sushi fell onto the sofa, we discovered a caterpillar-like pest among the sushi that was still alive. You understand that we immediately spat everything out and threw it away.’
Cocaine smuggling
Cynthia’s simple complaint: ‘AH Wholegrain Knäckebröt were my favourite crackers. Now there’s some kind of white powder on them. Has the composition changed?’
Drifting bits
Oh, so recognisable: yellow flecks in pretty much everything on the kitchen counter. ‘The AH organic lemons come two to a net of poor quality,’ writes DenktNiet. ‘When you cut them open, tiny pieces drift everywhere and stick to everything. That way they end up on my plate and in my food. Why do they have to be in a net?’
Where’s the soup?
It can’t be proven, but it really is true, writes Roorda. ‘I bought two packs of Kania concentrated chicken soup. To my surprise, one pack contained only two soup sachets instead of three.’
Tough meatball
If you’re not used to there being a little sheet of paper underneath the minced meat to absorb the moisture, you get this: ‘I bought beef mince in the new packaging at Coop. After adding egg, herbs and breadcrumbs, I rolled and fried four balls. During the meal, I was chewing on a tough membrane or something similar. It seems papery and is approximately 18 by 7 centimetres.’
Stuffed bread
Someone else who got more than they paid for at Coop: ‘I bought three loaves of bread, and while eating I was horrified to find cardboard and pieces of fabric. I choked on it! My husband wants to take this to the media because he’s furious.’
Tasty party snacks
Lida bought party nuts at Coop, but she wasn’t the only one who enjoyed them. ‘Today I bought one bag of snack mix, but when I got home it had been eaten, probably by a mouse.’
Strange flavour
Hendrik always buys bread rolls at Dekamarkt, but this week they taste different. ‘There’s a strange flavour to them; it seems as if there’s nail-polish remover in them. I hope you can investigate this.’
Checkout closing
A minor irritation: walking to a checkout with a short queue, only to see that it’s about to close. But it can be even more irritating, as you’ll understand from Mrs Kobossen’s complaint. ‘My wife is standing in line at the checkout. There’s one other woman. The cashier presses the red button and says, checkout closed, please go to checkout number five. And then there’s the way it’s said.’
