Hema now has a hot dog costume for dogs and it’s fantastic

Okay, Halloween was a while ago and Carnival is still a little way off, but why should you need a party to dress your dog up as a hot dog? Come on: this costume is the best ever, right?!

Hema is doing great things on the foodie front. They recently launched chocolate bombs, prosecco pong and a proper baking competition, and now there’s also a hot dog costume for your dog on the shelves. I could explain it all, but a picture says more than 1,000 words. Especially in this case. And as it happens, I know people with a handsome dachshund who, naturally, has had this little outfit hanging in the closet for ages—he’s quite the fashionista.

So, here he is: Rufio. You can follow him on Instagram under—how fitting—the name @rufio_the_sausage.

Does this sound like the ultimate thing for your four-legged friend? It’s yours for ten euros. Note: although the outfit is adjustable with Velcro, you shouldn’t put it on your Great Dane. And a Chihuahua won’t get away with it either (it would probably collapse under the sausage). According to Hema, the outfit is suitable for a sturdy Jack Russell.

I say: the ideal gift for the animal-loving foodies among us. No hot dog in its mouth, but simply as a hot dog in a bun. And to wrap things up nicely, here’s some moving footage of Rufio. Just because we can.
