Here you can still find cheap sandwiches in Amsterdam

alles voor de lunch

Something I really miss in Amsterdam: ordinary, simple and affordable sandwiches. These days, I can only find trendy places where you can score all kinds of sandwiches with a thousand-and-one toppings, and where you can barely find anything for under ten euros. Where have the sandwiches that simply cost under five euros gone? A simple bread roll with cheese, for example?

The good news: they’re still around. The bad news: there aren’t many left. But I’ve listed the best options for you.

These sandwiches in Amsterdam are still affordable

1. Broodje Daan
A household name when it comes to affordable sandwiches without too much fuss. Here, a sandwich with ossenworst costs € 2.70, a sandwich with chocolate sprinkles or peanut butter €0.75 (no, that’s not a typo), and if you want to go for something a little more luxurious, you won’t be disappointed either: a BLT or hummus with grilled vegetables costs €3.25. And that’s why we love Broodje Daan.

2. Broodjeszaak de nieuwe RAI
A simple toasted sandwich with ham, cheese and tomato costs € 4.25 here, which I think is very reasonable. A cheese sandwich is € 3.50, and their signature dish (I always get this here): spicy chicken for € 4.95. You should also order a portion of fries, by the way, because they were praised for them by AD—and they’re homemade.

3. Tjin’s Toko
I already think Tjin’s is a wonderful shop for its products, but I often also pick up a sandwich for the road. Prices have gone up over the years, but they’re still okay: from six euros, you can get a heavenly sandwich here.

4. Perry’s Exotic Food
I often get saoto soup here, and then I can’t resist ordering a sandwich to go with it (and possibly a piece of spekkoek). Their curried or sweet soy chicken breast, for example, is only € 5. A great price, if you ask me.

5. Alles voor de lunch
Luxury sandwiches, but mega affordable. A carpaccio sandwich, for example, costs just € 4.75 (one euro extra if you want it on an Italian roll, but I still think that’s very reasonable), and steak tartare with egg is only € 3.95. They also have salads and soups here, which are just as affordable. A real recommendation, and they deliver too.
