Honest wording in ‘dog job’ vacancy turns out to be a stroke of genius

Too funny: a hotelier from Vlaardingen decided to take a completely different approach to writing a job vacancy. Instead of spouting flashy, enticing copy that almost everyone knows nobody actually talks like in practice—or that promises all kinds of wonderful things—this man decided to take a completely different tack…

And his honesty worked. The vacancy for what Dirk Overbeeke himself described as ‘the least desirable job in the Netherlands’ had already been viewed more than a million times, according to him, and most importantly: it had already produced seven applicants in two days. The opposite happened, in other words, and he now even says he has to turn people down!
Dog job
So what is this dog job, the least desirable job in the Netherlands? We can think of quite a few things, but as Dirk also indicated in the recruitment text: “after having filled one of the least desirable jobs in the Netherlands for about ten years, our Judith has had enough too.”
Enough of what? Starting at 5 a.m. to run the hotel’s breakfast service at the Delta Hotel Vlaardingen. You know, the job where, in this case, you have to serve around 100 guests coffee and croissants at about 6 a.m. because they want to get to work, and ‘if you’re unlucky, there’s also someone with a morning mood among them who takes it out on you.’
A masterclass in thinking differently
Yes, no, hilarious—sign me up! Dirk goes into even more detail on LinkedIn, the platform where the vacancy appeared. If you want to witness this brilliant example of thinking differently, you should definitely take a look; the honesty is touching on the one hand and downright hilarious on the other, so we can totally imagine you thinking, ‘I want to work for a boss like that!’
