Top news for vegans and everyone else who sometimes (wants to) eat plant-based: the Netherlands’ first vegan cheese shop has opened! So if you’re still thinking, ‘I’d love to sprinkle Parmesan over my pasta, but I can’t because I’m eating plant-based today,’ or ‘What should I put on the snack board for my vegan friends?’, head straight to Willicroft on Amsterdam’s Spiegelgracht.

A world without you

That’s where Brad Vanstone, an Englishman who had no trouble switching to vegan food EXCEPT when it came to cheese, has opened a little shop selling nothing but plant-based ‘cheeses’. You can buy the cheeses he makes himself under his own Willicroft label, as well as a selection produced by Yerba, Rosie and Riffy, and Zuurbek, among others. A bottle of wine naturally goes with that, so you can pick one up there too!

Allll the ‘cheese’

Cheese fondue, cheese sauce, Parm, ricotta? For anyone who can’t live without these but, for whatever reason, prefers to eat dairy-free, there’s now a shop full of convincing copies. So are you craving an elaborate vegan snack board, or desperately in need of a piece of delicious bread dipped in warm cheesy gooeyness? Willicroft could well become your go-to in the capital…
