Hotspot: Oriole Garden Bistro

One of our favorite places in the city center of Amsterdam? Without a doubt, Oriole Garden Bistro. This green oasis in the iconic Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam hotel is a wonderful and relaxing place amid the bustle of De Wallen. An added bonus: the Summer Sundays with live music at The Garden Terrace.

Oriole Garden Bistro
Oriole, a striking name. It refers to a songbird. The Eurasian golden oriole, to be precise. And that suits this greenery-dominated restaurant well, where indoors and outdoors blend seamlessly into one another. We are in love with the courtyard garden, called The Garden Terrace here; a wonderful hideaway for a romantic brunch, lunch or dinner.

Summer Sundays
Every Sunday, through 25 August 2024, it is Summer Sunday in the hotel’s courtyard garden. With live music and delicious snacks and drinks. Such as grilled padrón peppers, Grey carbon pizza with truffle and loaded fries from Frietboutique.

Oriole Express
Alongside the Summer Sundays, an Oriole Express menu can be ordered at Oriole Garden Bistro every day of the week, especially for the summer months. Your reservation is your ticket, and don’t worry: you don’t need to pack any suitcases. All you have to do is choose your favorite dishes from the destination in question. Every year, the Oriole Express travels to five destinations, and the first stop, in June, is very close to home indeed: the Netherlands!

Menu with matching wines
You can choose between a three-course Menu du Chef for €49 or a four-course Menu du Chef for €58. The menu includes Dutch white asparagus, steak tartare made from Dutch beef with Amsterdam onion, and stroopwafel with cream cheese mousse, caramel and cinnamon ice cream for dessert.
The optional matching wines are an especially nice touch. Several Dutch wines are currently on the menu, such as Solaris Hof van ‘t Hogeland from Groningen, Cuvée XII from Apostelhoeve in Maastricht and Sauvignac from Wijngoed Wolf in Den Bosch.

In the conservatory
The next destination of the Oriole Express is Egypt (July), August takes you to Vietnam and China, and Panama and Colombia are on the itinerary in September. The final destination is still being kept secret for now.

In bad weather—well, in the Netherlands you never know—the Summer Sunday is canceled. Our tip: take shelter in the conservatory of Oriole Garden Bistro. The atmosphere here is slightly more relaxed than in the rest of the hotel, while still offering that wonderful five-star service.
