How to keep the bubbles in your wine

We can hardly imagine that a bottle of sparkling wine wouldn’t be finished in one go. Yet it could happen sometime. If you drink the rest the next day, you’ll want there to still be a lovely fizz in it. Here’s how to make that happen.

All our lives, FavorFlavs Renée and I were under the impression that you should hang a spoon in the neck of the bottle to preserve the bubbles in the wine. The disappointment was enormous when, while writing this article, I discovered that this traditional method doesn’t work at all. Damn. You’re better off doing one of the following two things.
Decant it
You pour beer into another container to get the fizz bubbling again; you can do the same with wine. Do you have a decanter? Pour the wine into it, and the bubbles will come back to life a little. Don’t have one? Carefully pouring it into another empty bottle is also an option.
Stop it
The very best way? Buy a champagne stopper. Secure it firmly over the opening, and it will keep all the bubbles in the bottle. Sounds complicated, but you can get one for just a few euros, and it takes up hardly any space in the kitchen. You’ll be really glad you have one the next time that bottle doesn’t quite get finished.
