How to make a real fast-food burger at home

burger van de in n out

An artisanal burger made with the best ground beef and a crisp, toasted brioche bun is of course fantastic, but sometimes you simply crave one of those sloppy burgers from McDonald’s or Burger King. Just be honest. How do you make one at home? We have a great trick for you.

The best thing about that typical fast-food burger is, in my opinion, the sloppiness. The way the bun, cheese and meat have almost completely melted together. Delicious! I don’t know whether it’s because the burger sits getting soggy in a paper wrapper for a while or whether it has something to do with the preparation method, but fortunately I do know how to recreate it at home.

Hot and steamy

The only thing you need is a steamer basket or steamer pot. These are mainly used in Asian kitchens, but for a deliciously sloppy burger, this is also the kitchen tool you need. Build your burger as you normally would, press it together firmly and place it in the steamer for about four or five minutes. This makes the bun meld with the cheese, meat and any pickle. Exactly what you want.

Ain’t no party like a hamburger party

You can even keep them in the steamer for about twenty minutes without them becoming any less tasty. That means you can throw a hamburger party without having to stack burgers at the last minute. Great, right?!
