Indeed: Sinterklaas beer now exists

Sinterklaas is almost here, and that means not only parades, debates and stress over surprise gifts, but above all an endless stream of Sinterklaas specials. Because chocolate letters and spiced cookies alone just don’t cut it anymore.

We already had Old Amsterdam cheese letters, spiced-cookie wine and pepper/spiced nuts in all kinds and flavors; this year, Brouwerij Hoop is introducing a genuine Sinterklaas beer: ‘De Zaanse Schoen’. A specialty beer with a hint of chocolate.
‘Hoop Bier’s De Zaanse Schoen is based on the Chocolate Porter, a dark beer, but at 6% it is certainly not too heavy. It is a tried-and-tested recipe that won several prizes last year, including ‘Best Beer of North Holland’ in the light beers category,’ says the brewery.
The launch of this ‘liquid chocolate’ will take place on Saturday, November 17, during Sinterklaas’s arrival in the Zaan region. The brewery invites everyone (over 18, of course) to come and taste the Sinterklaas beer. It is also available at various liquor stores, especially in the Zaan region, and at Marqt.
