Huh?! Are we allowed to go to restaurants and bars from 1 June or not?

I did a little dance in the living room when it was announced yesterday that restaurants and bars could – subject to conditions – reopen their doors from 1 June. But now it turns out that this is not certain at all. The scientific advice from the OMT is still missing.

RIVM director Jaap van Dissel said this on Thursday during a technical meeting in the House of Representatives. Lodewijk Asscher asked him about the scientific evidence that reopening restaurants and bars would be sufficiently responsible.
‘Perspectives’
Van Dissel explained that, for the time being, advice has only been given on the easing of restrictions from 11 May. There is no scientific substantiation for the ‘dots on the horizon’ outlined by the cabinet through 1 September. “That still needs to be looked at,” Van Dissel told Asscher.
According to Van Dissel, the cabinet’s roadmap is about “perspectives”. The RIVM will issue advice ahead of 1 June.
A false promise?
So have we been given false hope? Perhaps. According to Van Dissel, whether restaurants and bars can really reopen also depends on how the spread of the virus develops in the coming period. So we’ll have to wait a little longer.
