In the Netherlands, we get through more than 20 liters of wine per person every year. So we make regular trips to the bottle bank. What was drunk? And what was eaten with it? This time, FavorFlav’s Delilah

What’s going into the bottle bank?

‘The empty bottles, you mean: a very fun Greek white wine, two bottles of Grüner Veltliner (type: ‘after a few bottles, it doesn’t matter that much anymore’) and a red Côte du Rhône.’

What was the occasion?

‘My London sister-in-law and her boyfriend came to stay for three nights. It turned out they only drank beer. Oops.’

What did you eat with it?

‘One evening, slow-cooker chicken with thyme, wild rice and mushrooms (because everyone was working during the day), and an endive and beetroot salad. One evening eating out at Simon de Wit, and a sausage and cheese with the wine when we got home. One evening they went out and we had a barbecue: pork chipolatas and vegan burgers for balance. And a salad my ten-year-old daughter had made.’

Did it taste good?

‘Of course!’

Hangover?

‘Nope. I’m very good at this.’

Greek white wine more often?

‘Definitely.’
