In this province, frikandels are the cheapest (and the most expensive!)
By now, it should be clear that we Dutch people love a fried snack. With around 5,000 snack bars, you can get a frikandel on practically every street corner. Thuisbezorgd investigated where you pay the least—and the most—for that oh-so-beloved brown snack.
Every year, we eat around 600 million frikandels, making this snack the most popular accompaniment to fries in the Netherlands. Speaking of fries: in addition to searching for the cheapest (and most expensive) frikandel, in the Great Snack Bar Survey, Thuisbezorgd also finally settles the fries-versus-chips question once and for all. Based on menus, the delivery service mapped out the divide:

But that isn’t the only difference. The price of frikandels also varies considerably throughout the country. In the capital, for example, you pay an average of €2.64 for the snack. In Heerlen, Limburg, it costs an average of €1.82. So that’s a difference of 82 cents, which is quite significant if you regularly visit the snack bar—the most common snack bar name in the country, incidentally, is ‘Het Hoekje’.
