Every year, we Dutch people devour around 600 million of them, which is why the frikandel is the most popular snack in our country. Which frikandel is the tastiest of them all? Which one should you pick up at the supermarket? Here is the answer.
It has remained wonderfully ordinary, the frikandel. No fancy business with exotic fillings or new flavours: no, the frikandel is still essentially the same as butcher’s son Bekkers’ invention from 1959, as he was probably the inventor of our favourite snack. For home fryers, the AD tasting panel has good news: they tested the frikandellen you can buy at the supermarket to determine which one is actually the tastiest.
The best frikandel is from…
The best frikandel according to the tasting panel: Mora. That’s right, the completely ordinary frikandel in the orange packaging scores best of all and leaves all imitations far behind. It receives a lovely round eight from the tasting panel, and everyone thought this was the best frikandel. Remarkably, the other frikandellen in the test contain more chicken and less pork than this frikandel.

Grey and wrinkled
The least impressive frikandellen in the test are the frikandellen from g’woon, available at Vomar and Spar, among others, and the unbranded frikandellen that cost only 1.61 per kilo. Both are too pale and too grey, wrinkled, and lack flavour.
