With This Handy Trick, You’ll Never Have a Dirty Sandwich Maker Again

Craving a toasted sandwich for lunch but not a machine covered in baked-on cheese and greasy edges? Try this brilliant tip and you’ll always end up with a clean sandwich maker!

Whether you go for one of Joris Bijdendijk’s star toasted sandwiches, one with a hamburger in between or simply a classic with cheese and a generous dollop of mayochup: toasted sandwiches are heavenly. Because no matter how simple or elaborate you make yours, it remains an all-time favorite, especially here in the editorial office.
Never clean it again
But all that melting often also comes with cheese dripping over the edges and baking onto the machine. A sandwich maker isn’t exactly the easiest kitchen appliance to clean, so we can definitely use this handy trick. And it’s actually very simple. The only thing you need to have at home is a piece of parchment paper. Fold the parchment paper in half, place it between the plates and then put your toasted sandwich between it. By grilling the sandwich between the parchment paper, the cheese drips onto it instead of onto your machine. Once it’s ready, take the toasted sandwich out, throw away the paper and put the sandwich maker—shining clean—back in the kitchen cupboard. Great tip, right?
