Recipe: Hamburger Toastie

Toasties, I LOVE them. You can genuinely make me incredibly happy with a ‘simple’ ham and cheese one, but the chicken satay toastie is also still a favorite. Or a French Melt toastie with caramelized onion, insanely delicious! Goat’s cheese and truffle honey… Tandoori chicken toastie… And, wait, don’t forget the pan-fried toastie with Gruyère and red wine! The options are endless, but today I want to recommend one that currently holds the number-one spot for me: the hamburger toastie.

That already sounds amazing, of course, but it’s also incredibly delicious. And seriously: it’s ready in no time.
Ideal hangover food or simply lunch
Hey, it’s Friday: so we’re always allowed to have a slightly more elaborate lunch, right? Or well, more elaborate… In any case, less healthy. And no worries: with this recipe, you don’t have to make the burgers yourself first. No, you simply use ossenworst! Side note: you can of course also make it as a panini instead of toasties.
Okay, the steps (insofar as there are any):
- Spread mayonnaise on the inside of one slice of bread
- On the other slice of bread, place the onion, optional tomato and cucumber, and a thick layer of ossenworst (evenly distributed over the slice of bread), plus pepper and salt to taste. Finally, add as much cheese as you like (I love lots of it)
- Place the top slice (with mayonnaise) on top and, for that extra touch, spread some mayonnaise on both outside surfaces as well. Especially if you’re making it in a frying pan!
- Et voilà! Time to bake or grill!
Customize to your liking
Of course, you can customize it however you like; you can also put ketchup inside, but I personally think it’s best to dip it in ketchup. Satay sauce inside, why not, that’s also delicious. Or mustard; as I said, the options are endless.
And if you happen to have leftover hamburgers, those will of course work instead of ossenworst too. But this is the easy and quicker version. Enjoy your meal!
