It has been proven: marriage makes men fatter

Research has shown that marriage makes men fatter. As soon as men tie the knot, they apparently change not only their relationship status, but also their eating and drinking habits. But how does that work? Colleague Emma from Amayzine looked into it.

Researchers at Leeds Metropolitan University conducted research into this and discovered that married men are fatter than single men. Married men treat themselves to cake, chocolate, biscuits and cupcakes more often. On top of that, they also drink more wine. Well, that certainly adds up.

The catch is in the bag

But what might be behind this? The first (and most obvious) reason is that men no longer have to win over their beloved. The catch is in the bag, so they can sit back in a comfy chair again. Very annoying and especially very cliché, but apparently it is nevertheless the harsh truth.

And that is exactly why I am so wary of marriage. Perhaps this is something to lay down in a contract as soon as you decide to get married. After all, we also make promises about staying together and agreements about possessions, so why not also talk about not neglecting yourself after saying “I do”? I actually think that is a brilliant idea.

Lots of calories

Another theory from the researchers, by the way, is that partners are responsible for the weight gain because they prepare high-calorie meals for their husbands. It could also be that wives bring more unhealthy snacks into the house, which the men subsequently snack on for the most part.

Well, I think that is a very easy excuse to hide behind. So my advice to men is: just keep making an effort and don’t cancel your gym membership immediately after the honeymoon, because nothing is a given and the catch is never definitively in the bag.
