It’s proven: a hangover after 30 can last 4 days

Hungover and feeling absolutely miserable again? Drank too much? Is your head splitting after all that heavy wine? Once you’re over thirty, you’re doomed anyway, you know. Colleague Livia from Amayzine discovered that it’s been proven that after thirty, your hangover lasts 4 (!) days.

A hangover! Miserable
The older you get, the less effectively your body recovers from all that alcohol. Our kidney function also declines, the liver starts working more slowly, meaning alcohol is broken down less quickly, while our muscle mass decreases and our fat percentage increases. And the more fat you have, the more slowly alcohol is broken down. A biology lesson that won’t make you happy.
All of this makes you more sensitive to a real hangover with every passing year. A bit of throwing up over the toilet, that sort of thing. You may also feel unstable and emotional for days, precisely because you’ve been drinking so much. Exactly what you don’t need.
At breakfast
It also has everything to do with your hormones. Australian dietitian Kate Save says that your hormone levels mean you can feel hungover for up to four days after turning thirty, especially because you also sleep worse. That’s also because you drink less alcohol as part of your daily diet, so to speak. At 19, you probably did nothing but hang out in the pub. You drank beer like water and champagne mimosas for breakfast and carried on neatly until six o’clock.
Now that you’re older, you’re simply less accustomed to it. So when you go completely wild once in a while, it hits you twice as hard.
So: 30+? Make sure you drink a glass of water now and then. Forewarned is forearmed…
