Thirsty tales

It’s true: your hangover is less painful on vacation

Sure, it’s fun when the days are so long that you forget what time and day it is, but suddenly you’re also knocking back white wine at two o’clock on a Tuesday. But how bad is that, really? We have reassuring news for you.

Vacation is wonderful because suddenly you allow yourself to do everything you don’t do at home. Have breakfast with brie and white baguette with Nutella. Have lunch with a jug of sangria on the table. Sleep in. Go to bed early. Go to bed late. Whatever you feel like, you’re allowed to do it, under the excuse: it’s vacation. And that relaxed feeling is exactly what creates the necessary thirst: you don’t have anything to do anyway. And not tomorrow either. Bring on the rosé.

No stress

Especially now that our colleagues at Amayzine have reached the liberating conclusion: your hangover is less severe when you’re traveling than when you’re at home. Here’s why:

You have zero obligations, apart from that daily dip in the pool, and that makes a difference. So you can sleep longer if you want, which saves you half your headache. Plus, you’re rested, so physically you can handle more. You have nothing on your mind and you’re recharged. Not a single worry, not a single appointment. That splash in the pool or cooling off in the sea also gives you a fresh feeling, and before you know it, you’ve already got a substantial lunch in your stomach.

Eating plenty also helps against that miserable hangover. On vacation, you have more time for elaborate breakfasts and lunches, and that helps. Goodbye, nausea. Add some cola, get three courses down, and presto, you’re ready to carry on to happy hour. Just like the day before.

Coconut water for the win

What helps even more is eating oily fish. And that’s something we tend to do more of at the beach. Salmon in particular is a good plan if you’re in the mood for a toast. Drink plenty of water and, well, it’s actually pretty hard to go wrong. No more spending the day feeling rough on the couch: swimming, sunbathing and eating. And you’re as good as new again.

Oh, yes. One more tip: coconut water is very good if you’re feeling a little hungover. Bartender, please?
