Jodenkoeken get a new look and a new name

I no longer bring these home, because I can’t stop eating them. I think Jodenkoeken are so incredibly delicious that it never stops at just one. And they’re already pretty big, so that’s not exactly convenient. But soon I’ll fall for them again, because the Jodenkoek has a completely new look and isn’t called Jodenkoek at all anymore.

The company behind Jodenkoek, Davelaar, has been taken over by bakery Pater. What does this change mean? Are they now — horror — less delicious?
Completely vegan and just as delicious
Nooo, you don’t need to worry about that. The cookies are now made with 100% plant-based ingredients, so the Jodenkoek is completely vegan. And the new name: Odekoek. It sounds similar, but it isn’t, and I fully support the new name. The tins will also remain wonderfully recognizable (which is useful). But that’s not the only thing that has changed at bakery Davelaar.
No more applying for jobs
Behind the scenes, that is. In November last year, the company started using Open Hiring. This means that you can sign up with a company, and they make sure you can get to work without a job interview. Bakery Pater is incredibly enthusiastic about this initiative and is encouraging other companies to start using it too. Especially now that many people are stuck at home because of the coronavirus. Ideal, right?
