Junk Food Cake

A juicy burger, an abundant cheese platter and perfectly cooked steak—the Instagram account of Laura Loukaides is full of them. But look a little closer and you’ll see that it’s actually something completely different…

The 25-year-old from Hertfordshire makes incredibly detailed cakes. From sushi and dim sum to stacks of pancakes covered in syrup. Even the boards, plates and bowls these ‘dishes’ are served on are secretly cake. Mindfuck!

It’s also bizarre when you consider that Laura taught herself these baking skills to overcome her panic attacks. She was afraid to leave the house, watched Cake Boss and became so inspired that she started watching all kinds of YouTube baking tutorials.

Junk Food Tower

In 2014, she won gold at the Cake International cake competition with a gigantic junk food tower called ‘The Big Eater’. It took her 150 hours to make the tower of burgers, hot dogs, corn, sandwiches, choux pastries, macarons, pancakes and cupcakes out of cake.

After that first victory, she won many more baking competitions, and the baking queen now runs a successful Instagram account and creates the YouTube tutorials herself—the same kind she used to learn from.
