Let’s compare: how much have supermarket prices risen since January?
We all know, I think, that life has become incredibly more expensive in 2022. But exactly how much more expensive? AD carried out its final grocery test of the year to see how prices have changed since January. A warning in advance: this is going to shock you.
AD previously bought ten identical products on January 10, February 10 and March 10 to check this, and now once again on December 10.
And the prize for most expensive supermarket goes to…
…Albert Heijn (€28.40). Yes, that probably won’t come as a surprise to many. Plus came in second (€27.61), followed by Jumbo (€26.50). But how much cheaper was it in January? At Albert Heijn, it was €1.77 cheaper at the time (a 6.64 percent increase). Plus went up by €1.60 (a 6.15 percent increase), and Jumbo by €1.66 (a 6.68 percent increase — the largest increase of the three).
What stands out is that spreadable cheese in particular has become gi-gan-tic-ally more expensive. At all three supermarkets, but especially at Jumbo: in January, it was still only 75 cents, while by now a tub of spreadable cheese costs 52 cents (!) more.
