7 times this is ridiculously cheap at the supermarket

Everyone knows: make a list, cheap products are not at eye level, and never do your grocery shopping when you’re hungry. If you look around the supermarket a little, your eye sometimes falls on products that are sooooo cheap that you can hardly believe it.

Can of tomato purée

It’s unbelievable that a can can be made, a cute label designed, and those little things distributed for just 25 cents. You have to wonder: is there any money left to put tomatoes in that mini can?

Penny wafers

There’s only the tiniest bit of cocoa powder in them, and dark chocolate hasn’t come anywhere near them. But still: childhood nostalgia in every bite, and all for just 65 cents. Do you know how many of those you could buy with your pocket money?

Rice dessert

This unbeatable rice dessert wins prizes more often; it’s one of the guilty pleasures in the editorial office. Don’t be ashamed, because at this price you don’t have to skip it: one little tub costs just 32 cents. Absurd!

Hussar salad

School trips, neighborhood barbecues, children’s parties: a hussar salad was always there. With a cute plastic spoon that you first had to fish out from between the mayonnaise. Now you understand why Mom always served it at the special lunch: a nostalgic little tub costs less than thirty cents.

Vanilla sugar

Everyone knows there’s no real vanilla from Madagascar in this—delicate, fancy-schmancy and all that—but does it matter? One sachet makes your cake taste deliciously of vanilla, and you get ten of those cozy little sachets for 18 cents. EIGHTEEN CENTS!!!

Roll of crispbreads

If fried eggs with bacon are a breakfast for champions, then a crispbread is the breakfast for cheapo’s. Because a roll of crispbreads costs just 35 cents! Surprise: they also make super breadcrumbs, so these are actually two cheap products in one, and that’s what you call truly economically responsible.

Yum Yum noodle soup

How many exam periods did we power through on this? How many hangovers have these banished? The importance of Yum Yum noodle soups cannot be overstated. They also fit perfectly into a student budget: 41 cents per packet, and when they’re on sale you simply stock up on twice as many. Always useful at the end of your student grant!
