Lidl is going to sell steak for a quarter

We already thought Lidl’s insect initiative was really cool. As of today, there’s another new initiative that makes us very happy. Products that have reached the last day of their use-by date will now be sold for twenty-five cents.

A quarter. 25 cents. We probably all have that somewhere between the cushions of our sofas. Quickly fish it out, because you can now use it at Lidl to buy, among other things, steak and fruit. Though you do have to eat them that same day. No problem, right?
Lie-del
The trial is starting in twenty Lidl stores in Het Gooi and around Amersfoort. The discounts apply to, among other things, bread, meat, fish, vegetarian products, and two-kilo fruit and vegetable boxes. You’ll find the twenty-five-cent products in a bin in the store. The employees check the shelves daily (as they did before) and select the right products. Is there one rotten orange in a net bag? Then it’s picked out and the rest goes into the twenty-five-cent bin.
Food waste
More and more supermarkets are fighting food waste through various trials (Albert Heijn, for example). And that’s a good thing, because (almost) all products that had passed their use-by date used to go straight into the trash without a second thought. No shame. We’d rather see no waste and are completely behind this initiative. You go, Lidl!
