Lidl sells crunchy insect snacks

lidl Future Goods

You don’t come across superfood (read: insects) and seaweed wraps between the Silver Crest kitchen appliances and bake-off bread at Lidl supermarket every day. From June 27, you will. For one week. All for their ‘Future Goods’ theme week.

Exactly one year ago, supermarket Lidl put out a call: pitch us your most sustainable, healthiest or most innovative idea. The winners of this pitch will have their own product on the shelves at all Lidl stores in the Netherlands for one week. Together with StartLife, Lidl is trying to give innovative companies a platform this way.

Our favorites

We already did a little tasting and are sharing our five editorial favorites, so you’ll know exactly what to get on Thursday.

Vegan ice cream from Gigi Gelato
Italian ice cream made from fruit and vegetables. Gigi comes in three flavors (strawberry + blueberries + beetroot, mango + passion fruit + fennel, orange + ginger + carrot), and believe us when we say that all three are addictively delicious. Quickly make room in your freezer for this coolest kid in town!

Carrot and tomato burger from Farmer&Foodie
Sink your teeth into this veggie burger and you’ll understand our enthusiasm. Great bite, lovely flavor and hello: it’s healthy too. Winning!

Flavored insects from Little Hero
Superfoods in the form of edible insects. No, don’t start whining right away. Little Hero’s small, crunchy mealworms are delicious sprinkled over a salad. And how about crispy, crackling crickets with BBQ flavor? Pure protein bombs, and you don’t even have to go into the woods to catch them yourself. We’re sold!

Sugar-free snacks from Food2smile
Food2smile’s popped soy chips and sugar-free sweets were created to take on obesity and excess weight. Finally, something we can snack on guilt-free through the entire traffic jam.

Banabar fruit and nut bar
Admittedly, we first laughed really hard at this name. Don’t understand why? Just look up the meaning of bana in the street-language dictionary 😉 Don’t worry: beyond that, this fruit and nut bar has nothing to do with it—it gets its name from its base of dried banana. In other words: afterward, you’ll have energy for ten, perfect before or after working out.

Found your favorite? Stock up, because if the product is successful, Lidl promises it will remain in the range for longer.
