It’s peak asparagus season, but where can you buy fresh ones straight from the farm in Amsterdam?

Of course, you could drive all the way to Limburg or Brabant yourself, but driving along the A2 is time-consuming. The people at Asperges Amsterdam make the trip themselves several times a week to pick up high-quality asparagus.

Once they’ve come straight from the farm, you can buy them on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Amsterdam shop. Both Brabant and Limburg asparagus are offered there in three different quality classes. You can also choose whether you’d like to buy a kilo peeled or unpeeled. Very convenient when you’re expecting a large group of diners.

Recipe

Got your asparagus? Then, of course, you can take the classic approach and serve them with ham, boiled baby potatoes and mimosa sauce. In the mood for something different? Try a recipe by our Cook at Large, Naresh Ramdjas, with white asparagus, fregola (those little Sicilian pasta balls) and mushrooms.

These are the ten ultimate wines to drink with asparagus.
