Listening tip: new podcast by restaurant critics Hiske Versprille and Joël Broekaert

We keep our culinary knowledge up to date by reading (international) articles and watching television programmes. But we’re also huge fans of culinary podcasts. Wonderful while cooking, walking or in bed in the evening; nothing is more relaxing than listening to people talk about food. So we’re really looking forward to the new podcast by Hiske Versprille and Joël Broekaert.

Hiske and Joël eat almost anything. You may know Hiske from her restaurant reviews in Het Parool and de Volkskrant, as well as the excellent podcast Cheft. In it, she speaks at length with the best and most influential chefs in Amsterdam. Her motto: the more you know, the more you taste. Joël has presented various TV programmes, such as De vijf smaken van Joël, De smaak van Joël and Joël Lokaal. He writes about restaurants for NRC.
Makkelijke eters
In their podcast Makkelijke eters they talk about culinary products that are generally not discussed at a professional level. Why do foam blocks taste best in the swimming pool? Can you make Viennetta yourself? Why does kiwi make your gums so itchy, are paprika crisps the best crisps, and why do bottles of salad dressing sometimes contain floating herbs that seem to defy gravity? Fun!
Eating experiences
They also discuss their latest eating experiences in detail every week, call their friend Ava Mees List (coincidentally a sommelier at the best restaurant in the world) and provide first aid to listeners with a failed dish.
A new episode of Makkelijke eters will be released every week from 8 March.
